Welcome to Percy Main Primary School

Welcome to Nursery 2015/16

The staff you will meet in Nursery are Mrs McCarron, Mrs Dixon, Mrs Harding and Mrs Ogden.

Starting Nursery is an important landmark. You can be sure that the Nursery staff, working in partnership with parents, will strive to make this a positive and exciting event for your child.

We value each child as an individual whose needs and interests are unique and who, through carefully structured play experiences, will develop intellectually and socially to enjoy the benefits of being part of a wider group beyond that of the family.

At Nursery we hope to lay the foundation of your child's education and to encourage positive and stimulating attitudes to learning which will be of value throughout your child’s time at school.

Summer Term:

All the Same. All Different.

This term our learning will be based around the idea that we are all the same yet all different. We will use our bodies to help us understand that we might all look the similar but we are very different.

Our work will focus on the five senses and other aspects of ourselves such as height, shoe size, colour of hair etc.

Funny Faces

We made these delicious funny face biscuits. We counted the correct number of features and then enjoyed them as a yummy snack time treat!

Look at us!

We have been busy creating portraits of ourselves!

The children looked carefully at our eye and hair colour in a mirror  to make sure their faces were as close to real life as possible.

Spring Term:

The Gruffalo

We noticed that the children were really interested in the story of ‘The Gruffalo’ and wanted to learn more about the characters.

The first part of our work was based on ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson. This book is a story about a very clever mouse who tries to avoid being eaten by a fox, an owl, a snake and a Gruffalo!

We then explored other Julia Donalson stories such as 'Monkey Puzzle', 'Room on the Broom' and 'Sharing a Shell'.

The Gruffalo

We found purple prickles and brown fur in our garden. The Gruffalo must have visited us! We did our best to make him feel welcome. The he asked us to look after his child. We wondered what the child would look like and thought about what kind of things a Gruffalo's child would need.

Autumn Term:

Brown Bear

This term we found out about bears! Our learning was around several books about bears.

As we read 'Brown Bear' by Eric Carle, we challenged ourselves to find out about brown bears. We thought about what they looked like, where they come from and whether they are all the same.
