Welcome to Penguin Class!

Welcome to Penguin class! This term we are so excited to be learning about natural disasters, Anglo-Saxons, the Stone-age, Earth and space and many more new exciting topics!

We will be spending plenty of time developing our writing skills by producing both a journey and a portal tale within our fiction topic. Then, we will move onto our non-fiction topic where we will innovate and invent some great explanation texts about ‘How volcanoes are formed’ as well as a newspaper report about a missing person who has travelled back in time to the Stone-Age. Over the course of this term, we are excited to resume school trips and have all of the children’s lovely grown-ups come into school and be blown away by all of their beautiful work!

In September 2019 we opened our brand new Penguin class at Percy Main Primary for our pupils with additional SEMH needs, who would have otherwise been in alternative provision.

Penguins offers a bespoke provision for our children with additional needs. Children in Penguins access the full curriculum, being taught in a class with a high adult to child ratio.

In addition they have daily access to activities and approaches to ensure that our children:

  • Feel good about themselves
  • Increase their sense of security and trust
  • Increase their well-being
  • Improve their capacity to be creative and curious
  • Increase their self-esteem and confidence to learn
  • Learn to recognise and regulate their feelings
  • Learn to think before behaving in a certain way
Our children maintain links with the whole school community, accessing transition activities into year group classes when appropriate.
