Our Governors

Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about the school’s governors, and the work that we do.

Our main role is to support the Headteacher and the staff – the phrase often used to describe this role is ‘a critical friend’. We help them to set and reach targets and to strive for excellence across the whole spectrum of school life.

The two key documents used for this are the School Development Plan (SDP) and the Self Evaluation Form (SEF). The SDP sets out a yearly strategic plan for the school, with targets that everyone works towards and the SEF sets out how well the school is doing and where we aim to make improvements.

The Governing body has 3 core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

The Chair of Governors is Mr Bavaird, and the Vice Chair is Ms Walker-Maxey.

The Governing body consists of ten Governors, which includes the Headteacher.

David W Bavaird ( Chair of Governors)

        • Numeracy Link Governor
        • Penguins Class Link Governor
        • Headteacher Performance Management

I have been lucky enough to be the Chair of Governors at Percy Main Primary School for the past two and a half years. It is a voluntary role and I enjoy seeing how our school can make a positive difference to our pupils by providing them with a first class education in a safe and happy school.

I am a semi-retired businessman who has lived in North Shields for nearly 40 years having been born and brought up in the great city of Glasgow. I have two degrees from Stirling and Warwick Universities and have been lucky enough to have held board positions in the private sector, education, and charities, all experiences which I think help our school. I am happily married to my wife Anne and we spend every weekend at our caravan in the Scottish borders and enjoy watching US sports and following politics.

As the Chair of Governors, along with my fellow governors, we are the ultimate decision making body for the school and we make every effort to speak to parents and carers about how we can work together to help to make sure that every pupil is maximising their potential. I am a frequent visitor to the school and do not mind saying that I have occasionally left with a tear in my eye when I have witnessed first-hand our pupils demonstrating that they are learning and that they are happy.

Lee Cleminson ( Co-Opted Governor)

        • Music, RE and Geography Link Governor
        • Year 5 Class Link Governor

Hello, my name is Revd Lee Cleminson and I am currently Priest in Charge of St. John Percy Main & St. Peter, Balkwell. Before my ordination, I worked in a specialist oncology (cancer) unit at the Freeman Hospital, before training for the priesthood in a monastery in West Yorkshire.

I love being a school governor at Percy Main Primary, and being your local parish priest. This means I get to welcome children, parents and carers into the church for very special occasions, take school assemblies during school term, and I have also had the privilege to baptise some of the children that attend Percy Main Primary School too. I'm a regular, constant face and you will have seen me most days (in the wind, rain & snow) walking my beautiful Labrador, Delilah.
