Our Governors
Welcome to the section of the website where you can find out more about the school’s governors, and the work that we do.
Our main role is to support the Headteacher and the staff – the phrase often used to describe this role is ‘a critical friend’. We help them to set and reach targets and to strive for excellence across the whole spectrum of school life.
The two key documents used for this are the School Development Plan (SDP) and the Self Evaluation Form (SEF). The SDP sets out a yearly strategic plan for the school, with targets that everyone works towards and the SEF sets out how well the school is doing and where we aim to make improvements.
The Governing body has 3 core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
The Chair of Governors is Mr. David Baldwin, and the joint Vice Chairs are Reverend Lee Cleminson and Carla Hemmans.
The Governing body consists of ten Governors, which includes the Headteacher.

David W Bavaird
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of David W Bavaird.
David served Percy Main Primary School as Chair of Governors from 2017 until 2023 and was a huge asset to all of our stakeholders and the local community.
In time we will update this page to reflect the ways in which we are remembering him as a school.
David W Bavaird is succeeded as Chair by David Baldwin, a close friend and colleague of his.

Hello, my name is Revd Lee Cleminson and I am currently Priest in Charge of St. John Percy Main & St. Peter, Balkwell. Before my ordination, I worked in a specialist oncology (cancer) unit at the Freeman Hospital, before training for the priesthood in a monastery in West Yorkshire.
I love being a school governor at Percy Main Primary, and being your local parish priest. This means I get to welcome children, parents and carers into the church for very special occasions, take school assemblies during school term, and I have also had the privilege to baptise some of the children that attend Percy Main Primary School too. I'm a regular, constant face and you will have seen me most days (in the wind, rain & snow) walking my beautiful Labrador, Delilah.
